My name is Jesse Skinner. I'm a freelance web developer specializing in JavaScript, Ajax and CSS. I'm available for hire. For more information, please contact me.

I've been playing with the web ever since I made my first "home page" in 1995. I'm mostly interested in the gap between web design and server-side programming. Although I prefer working with XHTML, Ajax, JavaScript and CSS, I also do quite a bit of PHP and MySQL, and a little bit of Ruby on Rails.

I've been doing Ajax programming since early 2004, though back then I used hidden iframes and called it JavaScript Remoting. These days, I prefer to use jQuery, but I've also used Yahoo! UI and Prototype/script.aculo.us.

I'm originally from Barrie, Ontario, Canada. In September, 2004, I went travelling around the world with two friends. While in Berlin, I met a girl named Svea. Because of her, I decided to leave Canada and move to Berlin in April, 2005.

I've been working professionally as a web developer since April, 2000. I started working at cgk Technologies while finishing my degree and stayed there until a year after graduation. I was the Lead Product Developer of Hot Banana, a Web Content Management System that was eventually aquired for $3.25 million. While in Berlin, I worked for Strato AG as a web developer on their Web Content Management System LivePages. In September, 2006, I started freelancing full time.

In June 2003, I graduated from the University of Waterloo with an Honours Bachelor of Mathematics in Computer Science.

    I've been published three times:

    • In July, 2007, I had a Short Cut published by O'Reilly about Unobtrusive Ajax.
    • In April, 2007, I had a jQuery tutorial published by IBM DeveloperWorks.
    • In August, 2004, I had an article published in the ColdFusion Developer's Journal.

    I've also given three talks:

    • In October, 2006, I spoke at The Ajax Experience in Boston about Unobtrusive Ajax.
    • In April, 2004, I spoke at FlashintheCan 2004 about using standards-based technologies to create Rich Internet Applications (essentially AJAX programming).
    • In March, 2004, I spoke at WEBEVOLVE 2004 about the evolution of web applications.

Well, that's enough about me. What about you? Please feel free to write me.
